Bali is blessed with wrecked mechanical marvels for us to explore under the tropical blue Seas.
One such marvel is the USAT Liberty wreck, a 125-metre long WWII shipwreck; arguably one of the best shipwrecks in Asia, if not the World. Crammed full of Bumphead Parrotfish, Barracuda, Tuna, Giant Trevally, Scorpion Fish, Lion Fish, Reef Sharks, Turtles, Sting Rays and countless other marine species, it’s sometimes difficult to see the Wreck through all the fish!
Further down the coast there is the smaller yet equally as magnificent Japanese Wreck which is home to a fine array of large gorgonian fans, sponges and a multitude of macro marine species. The stern and large propeller are so richly coated with marine growth that it takes a few moments to actually recognise what they actually are!
Or we can go in search of Jepun Wreck; a small fishing vessel, resting on the sea floor at 20 meters depth, here a multitude of small wrasse and damsel fish have made their home but also residing deep in the engine room is quite possibly the largest Conga eel you will ever face.
Another Wrecking Machine marvel is the well guarded secret of a new and much less visited Ship Wreck which sunk in September 2012. This 150 ton cargo ship which stretches almost 40 metres in length as has much of its’ distinguishable parts such as the ship’s giant steering wheel, a Volkswagen car in the cargo hold and the ship’s propeller all still in good shape.
Last but not least, we can go in search of a fully operational submarine…YES, A SUBMARINE! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to come face to face with a mechanical marvel which is specifically designed to explore the seas.
